その結果、アストラゼネカ製の後にファイザー製を打った場合、ファイザー製の後にアストラゼネカ製を接種した場合よりも、抗体とＴ細胞が活発化し、Ｔ細胞の反応が最も強くなりました。
この２通りの接種は、アストラゼネカ製の２回接種より抗体が増しました。最も抗体が増したのは、ファイザー製を連続して接種した場合でした。
組み合わせた接種で、発熱や寒気など、副反応が増える可能性があるとの調査結果も５月に明らかにしているものの、大学側は、「より柔軟にワクチンを使用できるとわかったことは貴重な情報だ」とコメントしており、接種の間隔を広げると、さらに効果が高い可能性があるとしています。
一部の国ではすでに、別々のワクチンの接種を実施しています。スペインとドイツは、１回目にアストラゼネカ製を打った若者に対し、２回目はファイザー製やモデルナ製を接種しています。ただこれは、効果の観点からではなく、アストラゼネカ製ワクチンについて、まれに深刻な血栓を生じさせることが懸念されているためです。
