■世界の新型コロナウイルス感染者数1087万人余、死者52万人超 アメリカの１日の感染者が５万人超

　アメリカのジョンズ・ホプキンス大学のまとめによりますと、新型コロナウイルスの感染が確認された人は、日本時間３日午後４時の時点で、世界全体で1087万3186人となっています。また、亡くなった人は、52万1337人となっています。
　国別で感染者が最も多いのはアメリカで273万9879人、ブラジルが149万6858人、ロシアが66万231人、インドが62万5544人、ペルーが29万2004人となっています。
　亡くなった人が最も多いのもアメリカで12万8740人、ブラジルが６万1884人、イギリスが４万4080人、イタリアが３万4818人、フランスが２万9878人となっています。
　アメリカでは、１日当たりの新型コロナウイルスの感染者が５万人を超え、感染の拡大が深刻さを増しています。７月４日の独立記念日の週末には観光地や飲食店などに大勢の人が移動したり、集まったりすることが懸念され、対策を取るところも出てきています。
　ジョンズ・ホプキンス大学のまとめによりますと、１日に報告されたアメリカ全土の感染者の数は５万655人と、初めて５万人を超え過去最多を更新しました。
　南部テキサス州の７月１日の新規感染者数は8076人となり、過去最高だった前日を1000人近く上回りました。感染者の累計は、17万5000人を超えています。
　感染者の増加は南部のテキサス州やフロリダ州、西部のカリフォルニア州などにとどまらず、中西部の州にも広がり、状況は深刻さを増しています。
　こうした中、７月４日のアメリカ独立記念日の週末は、例年、多くの人が休暇をとることから、観光地や飲食店などが混雑することが懸念されています。
　このうちニューヨーク市では例年、独立記念日の当日に花火を打ち上げ大勢の人が集まっていましたが、今年は合わせて４日間にわたり別々の場所から打ち上げることで、市民が自宅などから花火を楽しむことができるよう対策をとったということです。
　また、各地の海水浴場を訪れた観光客などの間で集団感染が報告されていることから、カリフォルニア州などでは海水浴場を閉鎖するところも出てきています。
　一方で、テキサス州やフロリダ州では、コンサートなど大勢の人が集まるイベントも予定されており、感染症の専門家からは「この週末の後に感染が急拡大するだろう」という警告も出ています。
　カリフォルニア州では、対策として、前日の３日から６日までの４日間、主要都市であるロサンゼルスなどのビーチを閉鎖すると発表し、警戒を強めています。
　カリフォルニア州のギャビン・ニューサム知事は、「ウイルスは、週末や独立記念日だからといって一休みすることはない」とツイッターに投稿し、外出時にマスクで口元を覆うなど対策を徹底するよう市民に呼び掛けています。

The return of the angasi oyster - the popular native Australian lobster - in the Gulf of Carpentaria waters last week has sparked concerns.

The oysters were caught last week off Port Macquarie.

The area is popular with locals and tourists who flock to the region on occasion.

Cullins Beach Conservation Officer Paul McGinley said they were concerned for the welfare of the moorland bird which may have been affected by pollution or disease.

"We feel pretty confident that the shellfish is going to be fine."

Mr McGinley said the angasi were introduced into the region through drift fishing.

"So we are concerned that in the near future, and again because they are caught in an area that is so heavily impacted by pollution and disease, that the native birds might have had some kind of reaction to those sorts of fish."

Mr McGinley said he had contacted the Department of Environment and Heritage.

Donations to local council candidates should be capped review the government says

The coalition government says it's "worried" the funding system is being "stolen from local people", especially in poorer parts of Manchester.

Manchester, the largest city on Greater Manchester's list of priority areas, has been on the Government's priority list for more than six months and received an unprecedented eight years of cuts – including more than £4 billion spent on transport, housing and water.

The latest Labour cuts could see cuts of up to 75 per cent of funding.

Labour believes money spent on road repairs could benefit Greater Manchester, but the shadow chief secretary to the Treasury has warned it could be a waste.

Sadiq Khan, who will be shadow transport secretary on the first day of the election, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that it was "worried" that the cuts had been "stolen" from the regions.

He said: "We see the Government as the worst offender by far. I would be very concerned indeed if they were spending cuts to be put in place for a whole slew of vulnerable local authorities - local councils in particular.

"The problem with that is they would spend all those funds on roads which would then be used to support poorer parts of the communities and so on.

"And of course if you have a massive infrastructure spend, if you want to invest in something, you really need to go and look to where is the most vulnerable parts of the communities, where are the parts of the country which are not very well connected?

"We've got to get on the side of those parts of the country which have the poorest roads and transport so we'll tackle the problem."

There is no limit to the amount of money the council has been given over the past decade - and the government will find it hard to justify spending so much unless they can give a similar sum for spending on social services, he warned.

A local government minister said Manchester should be given an extra year - it was the third year the council has had to meet the spending cap.

He said: "We should be using some of that money to buy people places in the council which would be able to be put into the right areas of town.

"The fact we haven't done so is a serious disappointment which has caused an enormous amount of worry within the constituency."

Labour has also called for the cuts to the local government funding system to be rolled back, arguing there had been a "massive transfer of power away from local people to local areas".
