　人間への感染を巡っては、中国の科学院武漢ウイルス研究所から流出した可能性が指摘されてきました。昨年３月に公表されたＷＨＯによる現地調査の報告書では「可能性は極めて低い」とされましたが、今回の報告書では「入手できるすべての科学的なデータを検討することが重要」と指摘し、調査続行を求めました。ただ、中国とロシア、ブラジル出身の専門家３人は「追加調査は必要ない」として、調査続行の勧告を出すことに反対しました。
　報告書は、新型コロナを理解するため、「まだ利用できていない重要なデータがある」と指摘し、関係する研究者との面会やデータの入手、初期に感染が広がった中国・武漢の海鮮市場での調査の必要性も訴えました。
　事務局を務めるＷＨＯの感染症専門家マリア・ファンケルクホーフェ氏は、「時間がかかるほど解明は難しくなるが、何百万人もの死者のためにやらなければならない」と話しています。
