アイスランドの保健当局は、アメリカのファイザーとドイツのビオンテックが共同開発したワクチンが十分確保できているとして、「政府の感染症対策トップがモデルナ製ワクチンの不使用を決定した」とウェブサイトで発表しました。接種後に「心筋炎と心膜炎の発生率が増加した」ことを踏まえた措置だとしています。
アイスランドはこの２カ月間、アメリカのジョンソン・エンド・ジョンソンの医薬部門ヤンセン製の１回接種式ワクチンを接種した国民と、それ以外のワクチンの２回接種を完了した高齢者および免疫力の低い人を対象に、主にモデルナ製ワクチンを使って追加接種を行ってきました。
12歳以上の88％がすでに当初規定の接種を終えており、今回の措置による影響はないとみられます。
モデルナ製ワクチンを巡っては、他の北欧諸国のスウェーデンとフィンランドが７日以降、心筋炎や心膜炎のリスクを懸念して30歳未満への接種を中断。デンマークとノルウェーも、18歳未満に接種しないよう正式に勧告しています。
スウェーデン当局は、心筋炎や心膜炎が起きてもほとんどは軽症で自然に治るとする一方、症状が出た場合には医師の診察を受けることを推奨しています。
モデルナ製ワクチンの評価を巡っては、日本国内でも論争となっています。
